9C

nylon-string guitar

The 9C nylon string was developed with pulling as much volume and sonic richness from the gentle nature of the lower tension strings. I’ve pulled ideas from the Spanish and European romantic guitar traditions and brought them together in a unified look.

The first thing you’ll notice is the radically raised fingerboard, obliquely angling the strings toward the top and bridge at a pronounced negative neck angle. This changes the mechanical action of the top from the twisting/torqueing of the standard guitar bridge to a push/pull of the concert harp - the only plucked-string instrument that regularly competes with orchestral instruments. the top is typicallly7-strutt fan braced, with the 1st an 7 th struts running through a graphite-reenforced open tonebar - the lower soundhole transverse brace. The fingerboard boasts a full 24 frets, the UnderCutaway reaches to the 19th fret and undercuts back to the neck/body joint at the 14th with a thumb ledge for complete access to the upper reaches of notes. The nut and saddle are fully compensated to the D’addario Pro Arte hard tension strings. The slotted headpiece with Gilbert individual Graphite tuners is standard. The flamenco headpiece uses PegHeds 4:1 ratio geared flamenco tuners. The bridge is reverse-geography, with a 12 hole tieblock, and Brazillian rosewood is standard. The lower bout is 15”, the body at the heel is 3.75”, 4.75” at the butt. The neck is reinforced with static graphite rod or active truss rod.

Scale, string spacings, and action dimensions are set to standard or preference.
